A Waterfront Real Estate Masterpiece on Seattle's Portage Bay
A Waterfront Real Estate Masterpiece on Seattle's Portage Bay
Portage Bay is one of the lesser-publicized locales of waterfront real estate in Seattle. Situated between the ultra-convenient Lake Union and the expansive, luxurious Lake Washington, Portage Bay can sometimes get overshadowed or even overlooked by some home buyers (at their own expense). The floating homes on the water in this neighborhood are in themselves worth a weekend visit to view the radically different styles of residences.
This house on Everett Ave E builds from the unique style and waterfront access of floating homes, and takes them to a new level with a modern update. Situated on the South shoreline of Portage Bay, the calm waters and gently-sloping shoreline make you quickly forget the close proximity of the busy watercraft routes to the North. Geese relax lazily on the nearby docks, a quiet street end is covered in thick natural vegetation, and an occasional kayaker paddles by.
The home was built in 1998, but you'd guess it was new construction by the overall feel and immaculate detail involved in the current remodel. International style exudes from the first step on the property, with the clean lines and green Italian panel siding. Entering the home, a strikingly bright kitchen opens up to dining space and a large entertaining living room.
Turkish Onyx lines the entry way, leading to richly-stained hardwoods throughout the main floor. The views of the aquatic habitat and sailboats in the distance are expansive from the living room's wall of windows or from the adjacent steel and glass deck. A fire-on-ice fireplace is the centerpiece of the sharply-decorated living space. If a designer was asked to plan a floor layout for a high-end cocktail party, this would be it.
At 3 beds and 2.75 baths, plenty of living space has been designed into the 2354 sq ft home. The lower floor is dedicated almost entirely to private living space. The large master suite has French door access out to the flawless landscaping in the back yard. Radiant heating warms the tile floors from the bedroom to the bath. The layout is oriented to allow views of the water from anywhere in the suite.
The waterfront measures 41 feet, with an easy slope for launching kayaks or other personal watercraft. The lot is just over 4500 square feet, with almost all of it dedicated to the water-side of the lot, as it should be. Access to the home is provided with a lower-level garage and plenty of parking on the quiet street end.
This is one of the most cleanly-styled, functional, and attractive homes I've visited in quite a while. At just $1.225 million, this is a wonderful alternative to the high-end floating home or Lake Washington fixer/project. For the waterfront home buyer looking for a trophy house-the kind of home that guests talk about for weeks after visiting-this home is worth a visit. It certainly left an impression on me.
